At the conclusion of this course, the radiologic technologist will be able to do the following:

  • Classify the more common diseases in terms of their attenuation of X-rays.

  • Explain technical factors required for obtaining optimal quality radiographs in patients with very pathologic conditions.

  • Describe various alterations of cell growth and immune reactions of the body.

  • Describe the theory of image production with ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), and positron-emission tomography (PET).

  • Identify anatomic structures by major body systems.

  • Describe pathological conditions affecting the respiratory, skeletal, gastrointestinal, nervous, reproductive, hematopoietic, and endocrine systems and their radiographic manifestations.

  • Describe nutritional disorders and their pathological conditions associated to organs.

  • Describe hereditary abnormalities including chromosomal aberrations and genetic amino acid disorders.

  • State common complications involved with improper placement of endotracheal tube, central venous catheter, Swan-Ganz Catheter, and transvenous cardiac pacemaker and how chest radiography plays an important role in diagnosis of these complications.
